Yellowhead Tribal College was established in 1986 by the Yellowhead Tribal Council and is the only indigenous post-secondary institution in Edmonton, Alberta. Originally designed primarily to meet the educational needs and career goals of the Council’s four Treaty 6 member nations, the College currently welcomes all adult learners to experience an ”inclusive and open learning” 1 environment that “nurtures and promotes Indigenous cultures and traditions.”2   Cultural programming is an integral aspect of Yellowhead Tribal College, and students are provided opportunities to engage with Elders in residence and to experience cultural events and ceremonies throughout the school year.

Yellowhead Tribal College was a founding member of the First Nations Adult & Higher Education Consortium [FNAHEC) in 1997 and attained NIAB accreditation in 2017.
